Our amazing trip to the museum

On the Thursday 3 June 2010 we went to the Museum on a Bus. When we got there we had morning tea, then we had a look round the Museum. In the Museum we explored Floor One which is the Natural History Area. We spent time looking at dinosaurs and fossils which is a part of the Origins displays. One thing we learnt was that some of the Museum’s fossils are Millions of years Old. We also went in the Maori Natural History and saw the marae and the front was made out of punga, we saw a Maori Man in costume.

We met for lunch outside, then we played some sport. Some of us got muddy knees. It was good to get fresh air.

After Lunch, our museum educator, Paul came downstairs and got us and we walked back into the learning lab. Paul told us all about fossils and dinosaurs we learnt that bones rot. We did activities like trying to get a fossil out of a rock IT WAS HARD!!!! We also were fossil detectives, otherwise known as paleontologists and spent time in our groups trying to work what the fossils were that we were given. We spent 1 hour in the learning Lab, then we got back on the bus and went to school and then home.

Room 3 this term are learning about 'Wonderings into the Prehistoric World' - with a main focus on dinosaurs and fossils. They are immersing in lots of knowledge and understandings at the moment and will soon be visiting the Auckland Museum to learn more. We are aiming for the children to have many wonderings into this topic that lead to strong inquiry questions that they will then research and discover new findings.
